கார்த்திகை முதல் நாள் அன்று மாலை அணிவித்து 48 நாட்கள் விரதம் இருந்து ஸ்ரீ ஐய்யப்பன் சுவாமிக்கு மண்டல பூஜை செய்வது வழக்கம் பக்தர்கள் ஆலயத்தில் மாலை அணிந்து வாரம் தோறும் சனிக்கிழமை மற்றும் ஞாயிற்றுக்  கிழமைகளில் ஹோமம் அபிஷேகம் நடைப்பெறும். கார்த்திகை மாதம் முதல்  நாள் முதல் தை மாதம் முதல்  நாள் வரை படி பூஜை வழிபாடு செய்யப்படுகிறது. 48 ஆம் நாள் நெய் அபிஷேகம் மற்றும் கார்த்திகை முதல் நாள் 1008  சங்காபிஷேகமும், ஆங்கில புத்தாண்டு அன்று இருமுடி எடுத்தல் போன்ற விழாக்கள் நடைபெறும்.

On the first of the Tamil month of Karthigai, devotees of Sri Ayyappa Swamy wear the sacred garland and embark on their 48 day fast. They also participate in Homams (fire rituals) and abishegams (sacred baths) at the temple, every Saturday and Sunday throughout this period. The Padi Poojai (The Steps Worship) is observed from the first day of Karthigai to the first day of Thai. 1008 Sangabishegam (Sacred bath of the idol using water drawn with the conch) is performed on the first day of Karthigai, carrying of the Irumudi (Sacred Head Bag) is observed on New Year’s Day and on the 48th day Sri Ayyappa Swamy is given a sacred shower with ghee.
